About

Award-winning watercolour artist Kerrel Deakin (“Kes”) graduated from Northumbria with first-class honours in Applied Chemistry, followed by a Doctorate in Environmental Analysis. He’s always loved the natural world, and art has been his passion since GCSE. He’s never stopped creating, with most of his early work being in pen and ink. In 2019 he waved goodbye to Chemistry and has been painting ever since, including various commissioned works for pet portraits, and one for book illustrations. Much of his work is wildlife-based with the environment in mind.

Artistic background
Art

Kes uses a bespoke series of techniques developed over several years, involving heat to avoid watercolour / ink bleeding. This is essentially a dry-brush watercolour technique.
